Natural Language Processing, what is it?

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING (NLP) . noun . ˈnach-rəl \ \ ˈlaŋ-gwij /ˈprəʊ.ses.ɪŋ/

NLP is a branch of Artificial Intelligence that allows machines to break down, interpret, analyze and extract meaning from human language in the form of text or spoken word.

NLP was developed by combining traditional linguistics with rule-based statistical machine learning algorithms and deep learning.

Many tasks are performed by NLP such as Speech Recognition, Sentimental Analysis, and Grammatical Tagging (or Part-of-Speech Tagging).

Together, these NLP technologies enable computers to ‘understand’ the meaning, intention and even sentiments of human language! 🙌

NLP is already being used all around us. You’re more than likely interacting with it everyday!
